Eclecticismo e integración: Concienciarse de los peligros

Autor: Arnold A. Lazarus

Details:

An eclectic approach is warranted only when there is no possible choice of well-documented treatments for a particular disorder, or when these established methods do not achieve the desired results. But you should be very careful when going for potential effective methods that have not yet been scientifically proven. It is very easy to confuse observations with theories and confuse things when superfluous notions are adopted. Apply certain procedures using psychodynamic clinicians, or use techniques typically used by Gestalt therapists, does not mean doing psychodynamic therapy or adopt Gestalt therapy per se. There is no example in which the combination of different theories has led to a powerful technique, but there are many cases in which the techniques from different disciplines have enriched clinical resources. A brief example of an agoraphobic woman who was treated with eclectic therapy helps to highlight the pros, cons and dangers of eclecticism and integration.
